Women's soccer pulls out 2-1 win over La Roche

Abraham's fourth goal of the season is the difference against Red Hawks

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 25) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team welcomed La Roche College to John F. Wiley Stadium for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets did just enough to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Red Hawks, which was the team's second-straight win on the season.

All of the game's scoring was accomplished over the first 27:08 of play. Waynesburg (3-3) senior Taylor Augustine got the ball rolling with her second goal of the season, which came off an assist from junior Emily Mullady in the 19th minute of play. La Roche (2-6) tied the game up just 48 seconds later, but the home team tallied the eventual game-winning score after 27:08 of play when junior Natalie Abraham posted her fourth goal of the season.

The Jacket defense did a fantastic job of stifling the Red Hawk attack, which managed just six total shots on the night, including one in the second half. Waynesburg, on the other hand, attempted 24 shots over 90 minutes of play, including 16 in the second period alone. Sophomore Ciara Scott was the biggest beneficiary of Waynesburg's stingy defense. She improved her record in net to 3-3 overall after making two saves over 90 minutes of play.

The Yellow Jackets play their second of three-straight home games on Saturday, Sept. 28, when the University of Mount Union comes to town for a 1 p.m. contest.
