Women's soccer downs Heidelberg

Yellow Jackets move to 2-0 on the year

DEFIANCE, Ohio (Aug. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team improved to 2-0 under first-year head coach Laura Heethuis with a 2-1 win over Heidelberg on Saturday. The victory gave the Yellow Jackets a two-game sweep of the Defiance College Purple and Gold Classic.
 
Waynesburg fell behind 1-0 after Heidelberg (0-1) broke up a scoreless tie just 1:30 second into the game. However, senior Emily Mullady tied things up during the 17th minute of play on an unassisted goal.
 
Yellow Jacket freshman Melanie Byler scored her first collegiate goal and first collegiate game winner during the 69th minute of action to seal up the victory. Senior Erica Nordlund assisted on the deciding tally.
 
Junior goalkeeper Ciara Scott improved to 2-0 on the season after giving up one goal over 90 minutes of work for a second-straight start. The third-year starter made two saves.
 
Waynesburg will go for a third-straight victory to open the 2014 campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 2, when it hosts Franciscan University. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
