Volleyball takes part in FSU tournament

Waynesburg drops matches to Washington (Md.) and Rochester

FROSTBURG, Md. (Sept. 12) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to the state of Maryland on Friday to begin its two-day run at the Frostburg State University Tournament. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-0 to Washington (Maryland) College and 3-1 to the University of Rochester.
 
Waynesburg (3-8) dropped its contest with Washington (5-1) by the set scores of 25-11, 25-19, 25-21. The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by junior Kourtney Skinner, who put down a team-high seven kills in the loss. Junior Jessica Dorazio put together a squad-best 18 digs.
 
After suffering a 25-12 set one loss to Rochester (4-5), Waynesburg rebounded by taking set two 25-22. After Rochester grabbed set three 25-15, the Jackets were nearly able to force a fifth set before falling 25-22 in a decisive fourth set.
 
Skinner once again paced the offense, this time going for a team-best nine kills. Sophomore Morgan Newbauer put together a solid all-around effort in the setback by composing a 20-assist, 11-dig double-double.
 
The Yellow Jackets get back to work at Frostburg State tomorrow, when they face off with the host Bobcats and La Roche College.
