Women's tennis goes 1-1 this week

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 6) – The Waynesburg University women"s tennis team split a pair of road matches this week. The Yellow Jackets rolled to an 8-1 victory at Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, before suffering an 8-1 loss at Goucher (Md.) on Saturday.

Waynesburg was led by senior Lauren Cowden, who went 2-0 in her singles matches this week. She also won her doubles match against Mount Aloysius while teaming up with sophomore Heidi Evans. After scoring a singles win at the fourth spot against the Mounties, Cowden was able to pull out her team's only win in their match Saturday against Goucher by the scores of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).


The Jackets jumped out to an early lead by against the Mounties by taking all three of the day's doubles contests. Junior Emily McDonald teamed up with senior Ellen Limback at number-one doubles, while senior Madison Dubrock and junior Rachel Wilson took the victory at second doubles. Cowden and Evans completed the doubles sweep by winning the third-and-final flight.

Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when it hosts Thiel to open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
