Yellow Jackets take Saints to overtime before suffering PAC loss

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.  (Jan. 24) – Senior guard Kenny Klase registered a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, but the Waynesburg University men's basketball team lost in overtime at Thomas More College, 92-82. Senior forward Jason Propst also netted 16 points for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets(9-9, 5-4) erased a 15-point deficit over the final seven minutes of regulation to force overtime.  With less than 30 seconds remaining in the second half, Klase brought Waynesburg within a point, with a floater in the lane. On the subsequent Saint (12-6, 7-2) possession, senior guard B.J. Durham and senior forward Jason Propst created a double team and forced a turnover in the backcourt.  Durham flipped a pass to Klase, who converted a layup to give the Yellow Jackets a 72-71 lead.

After the squads entered overtime tied, 72-72, Thomas More used a 10-2 run to surge ahead, highlighted by three makes from beyond the arc. The home team closed out the victory from that point on.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a game-opening 4-0 lead on back-to-back buckets by Propst and Klase, respectively. After Thomas More tied the contest at four, Durham knocked down a three and converted a layup to give Waynesburg a 9-4 advantage. The five-point lead was the largest for either side in the first half. Following seven lead changes and four ties, the contest was deadlocked 36-36 at halftime.

Thomas More shot 51 percent for the game, including 40 percent (11-of-27) from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets held the advantage in rebounds, 42-38, and forced 16 turnovers, while coughing up the ball just 11 times.
