PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 1) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team nearly pulled arguably its biggest upset of the year, when it traveled to La Roche College on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets held a 2-1 match lead after three sets, but couldn't put away the Redhawks in a 3-2 defeat.
 
The two squads battled over a highly entertaining five-set match. La Roche (9-8) pulled out a 25-23 victory in set one, before the Jackets (2-15) took the match lead with a 25-20 win in set two and a 25-19 triumph in set three. After the Hawks rebounded to tie the match 2-2 with a 25-19 win in set four, La Roche outlasted the Orange and Black by the final score of 17-15.
 
Senior outside hitter Kourtney Skinner led the Jackets on the night by posting a double-double on 12 kills and 16 digs. Both totals were team highs. Freshman setter Sydni Ayers helped out the Waynesburg offense with a team-high 28 assists.
 
Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when it travels to Saint Vincent College for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match. The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to face the host Bearcats at 11 a.m. and Geneva at 1 p.m.
