WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted its annual Kick Pancreatic Cancer game on Saturday. Along with raising money for research and treatment of the disease, the Yellow Jackets also secured their second Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the year by shutting out the Tomcats 2-0.
Freshman
Natalie Fortna gave Waynesburg (5-5, 2-1) all the offense it needed for victory by scoring her second of the year in the 22
nd minute of play. The homestanding Jackets doubled their advantage thanks to sophomore
Sam Nichols, who found the back of the net in the 77
th minute.
The Waynesburg defense played perhaps its best game of 2015 by allowing just two total shots to Thiel (0-10-1, 0-3). Senior goalkeeper
Ciara Scott picked up the win in net after making one save.
The Jackets held sizeable advantages in total shots (20-2) and shots on goal (12-1). Waynesburg also attempted five corner kicks, while the Tomcats played just one ball from the corner flag.
The Orange and Black return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with a PAC road trip to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
