GROVE CITY, Pa. (Dec. 5) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled to Grove City on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown with the Wolverines. The Yellow Jackets dropped a 75-71 final score to the host squad.
Waynesburg (0-6, 0-2) trailed throughout the entirety of the second half and went into the locker room in a 33-30 hole. The Yellow Jackets rebounded early in period number two to take a 34-33 edge following a pair of free throws from senior forward
Nate Labishak and a layup by senior wing
D.J. Ritchie.
After Grove City (5-2, 2-0) tied things up at 34-34, Waynesburg built its largest lead of the day at 38-36. The Wolverines responded with five-straight points to go ahead 41-38. The home team built advantages as large as 10 points, but the Jackets battled throughout the remainder of the contest. The visiting squad pulled to within two points 73-71 during the game's final seconds of play.
Unfortunately, the Wolverines were able to knock down enough clutch free throws to hold on for the four-point victory.
Labishak did all he could to will his team to a win, as he poured in a team-high 18 points. Ritchie added 17 in the loss, while freshman
Dylan O'Hara set a personal collegiate best with 12 points. Senior guard
B.J. Durham contributed 11 in the setback.
Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 12, when it hosts Westminster for a PAC showdown. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
