WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 7) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team put together a historic performance on Saturday with an 83-38 victory over the rival Washington & Jefferson Presidents.
The margin of victory marks the widest gap between Waynesburg and Washington & Jefferson since the 1972-73 season, when the Jackets defeated the Presidents 108-58. The margin of victory is the largest since Waynesburg defeated Franciscan 95-44 during the 2012-13. The senior day victory also produced the team's most lop-sided win against a Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent since joining the conference in 1990.
The Orange and Black held the visiting team to just 26 percent shooting from the field and allowed only one double-digit scorer in the contest.
The Presidents (1-20, 0-12) led for just 18 seconds in the first half before the Jackets went on a 21-2 run to go ahead 23-5. Waynesburg (13-9, 9-4) never looked back from that point in the game and built a 45-13 halftime lead, thanks in part to 12 points by senior
Jacob Fleegle by halftime.
Fleegle and senior center
Tyler Miller led the Waynesburg offense with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Senior
Kenny Klase and junior
D.J. Ritchie tallied six points and six rebounds each. Waynesburg's latest 1000 point scorer senior
Jason Propst scored nine points and tied for the game high with seven rebounds.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when they travel to Thiel. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
