Women's lax hosts Lancaster Bible

Big second-half run sinks Jackets in 16-10 loss

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 30) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Lancaster Bible College on Monday at John F. Wiley Stadium. A late surge by the visiting Chargers broke open a tie match in the second half and led to a 16-10 Yellow Jacket loss.

Lancaster Bible (1-7) opened the scoring with back-to-back goals over the first 2:18 of play. The Jackets (3-4) tied the match up on a pair of scores by senior Kelly Mehal. Waynesburg trailed for the remainder of the opening period and went to the locker room on the wrong end of an 8-6 score.

The Jackets got off to a quick start in the second half and managed to tie the game at 8-8 following tallies by sophomore Holly Bachman and senior Bre Tyler, the second of which came at the 34:02 mark of the contest. Unfortunately, LBC produced the biggest run of the day, an 8-0 surge that moved the visiting team ahead 16-8 with 10:31 left in the second period.

Waynesburg mounted a comeback try, but scores by sophomore Jess Rains and Bachman were too little, too late for the home team.

Four different Jackets scored two goals each in a balanced scoring effort. Bachman, Mehal, Rains and junior Makayla Vidosh comprised the quartet of multi-points scorers. Senior goalkeeper JoHanna Philips played all 60 minutes in net and made 13 saves on the afternoon.

Waynesburg returns to Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action on Wednesday, April 1, when it plays its final road match of the 2015 regular season. The Yellow Jackets travel to Washington & Jefferson for a 6 p.m. contest
