Yellow Jackets suffer first PAC series loss of 2015

WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 25) – The Waynesburg University baseball team saw its four-game win streak come to an end on Saturday with a pair of shutout losses at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jefferson. The Yellow Jackets lost the games by scores of 1-0 and 7-0.

In the opener, junior pitcher Brian Resnik threw his fourth complete game of the season. He allowed just four hits and one earned run, while fanning four President hitters in six innings of work. Despite these totals, Resnik sustained just his second loss of the season and first since March 12.

Junior centerfielder Matt Bensinger collected two of Waynesburg's four hits in the opener.

Game two saw sophomore Luke Carter pitch into the fifth inning for the Yellow Jackets. W&J jumped out to an early lead by scoring three runs in the second inning. The Presidents added on four additional runs in the fifth inning.

A pair of Yellow Jackets enjoyed multi-hit games. Senior leftfielder Ben Shorthouse went two-for-four out of the leadoff spot, while sophomore shortstop Nathan Mori went three-for-four while hitting second.

With the losses, Waynesburg currently sits at 17-15-1, and 15-6 in PAC play. The Yellow Jackets are currently tied for second place with Thiel. Meanwhile, W&J has sewn up the final qualifying spot for the PAC Baseball Tournament. Thomas More, Thiel and Waynesburg have already clinched the postseason. With three conference games remaining for each school, individual seeds are still to be determined.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, May 1, as they host first-place Thomas More. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
