Jerry Lawman and freshman cross country runner
Teghan Simonton were named Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week after memorable performances on Saturday.
Lawman put together a second-straight productive effort on the ground by racking up a game-high 90 yards and a score on 20 carries during Saturday's 28-21 loss at Saint Vincent. He produced the bulk of the Jackets' 139 yards on the ground.
Simonton was the top women's runner for Waynesburg at Saturday's Bethany Invitational, earning third place with a time of 23:47. The first-year standout was the highest-finishing Division III athlete at the event. Her performance also helped the Yellow Jackets capture second place in the team competition.
The Waynesburg football team will return to action on Saturday, September 19, in a night contest at Geneva College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The women's cross country team will compete at the Saint Vincent Invitational on Saturday. The race is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start.
