(Jan. 29) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team welcomed Thiel College to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse for another chapter in the intense rivalry between the two programs. With the score tied at 6-6 following three bouts, the Tomcats went on a four-weight winning streak that ultimately led to a 24-16 victory for the visitors.
Things started well for the Jackets (6-8, 1-1), as sophomore
Tristan Buxton scored late to pull out a 3-2 win over Thiel's (9-10, 2-0) Vince Vahaly. However, the Tomcats struck a big blow at 133 pounds with a first-period fall that put them up 6-3.
Junior
Filippo Crivelli tied the match at 6-6 by defeating the current Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Wrestler of the Week Robert Ritschard 5-3. Unfortunately, the next four weight classes all went to Thiel, with one win coming by major decision.

Ryan Shank kept the Jacket hopes alive with a 9-1 major decision at 184 pounds to pull the Jackets to within nine points at 19-10. Thiel ultimately sealed the victory with a technical fall at 197 pounds. Freshman heavyweight
Jake Evans ended the loss on a high note by pinning Thiel's Tyler Hendzel in 5:14.
The Jackets are scheduled to compete in their final regular season event of the year on Saturday, Feb. 6, when they head to Baldwin Wallace University's John Summa Memorial Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
