BETHANY, W. Va. (Jan. 9) – Senior wing
D.J. Ritchie was one of four Yellow Jackets to score in double figures, but the Waynesburg University men's basketball team was downed by Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) member Bethany, 84-73.
Ritchie scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Freshman wing
Dylan O'Hara, sophomore wing
Jon Knab and senior forward
Nate Labishak notched 10 points each for the Orange and Black.
After Bethany scored the initial basket of the contest, Waynesburg responded with a 7-0 run, capped by an O'Hara three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets played from ahead until the 4:18 mark of the first quarter, when a Bethany three swung the Bison into the lead.
Bethany's advantage swelled to as many as five points, but settled at a two-point lead (39-37) at the halftime break. Waynesburg surged ahead for a brief moment early in the second half as a Knab layup gave the Yellow Jackets a 45-44 lead, but just 30 seconds later Bethany retook the advantage for good at the 17:39 mark.
The loss was the second-straight setback for Waynesburg, as the Yellow Jackets now own an overall record of 2-11 and a conference mark of 2-4. Bethany improved to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the PAC.
Waynesburg will look to bounce back on Wednesday when it travels to PAC member Thiel. Tipoff from Greenville, Pennsylvania, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
