CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Feb. 23) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled to Thomas More on Tuesday night for the quarterfinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament. Unfortunately, it also wound up being the team's season finale, as the host Saints scored a 72-56 win to advance to the semifinal round.
The Yellow Jackets (10-16) got the night off to a good start thanks to four-straight successful free throws from senior
Nate Labishak and freshman
Dylan O'Hara. Thomas More (16-10) responded with an old-fashioned three-point play that cut the Jacket deficit down to a single point. Unfortunately, that was the visiting team's final lead of the night, as the Saints wound up scoring eight-straight points to take an 8-4 advantage.
Waynesburg spent the remainder of the game trying to play catchup against the eventual victors, and went into the locker room at halftime trailing by just six points at 40-34. The Saints managed to distance themselves from the Jackets by as many as 18 points in the second half, before scoring the 16-point victory.
Senior wing
D.J. Ritchie tallied a team-high 10 points and six rebounds in his final game as a Jacket. Sophomore
Kendall Paige came off the bench to match Ritchie's 10 points, while another of the team's senior leaders, guard
B.J. Durham, chipped in nine points on the evening.
