CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Feb. 26) – After one half of play, the third-seeded Waynesburg University women's basketball team looked poised to advance to the Saturday's championship game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets couldn't' hold their halftime lead and fell 88-66 to second-seeded Washington & Jefferson.
The two PAC rivals went back-and-forth over the first half of play. With the score tied at 2:25 remaining in the second quarter, junior guard
Katie Gehlmann knocked down a three-pointer to give her team a 29-26 edge. Waynesburg (14-13) stayed ahead of W&J (22-4) throughout the remainder of the period. Senior guard
Lauren Blair connected on the final three pointer of the half just before the buzzer to give the Jackets a game-high 38-33 lead.
Unfortunately, Waynesburg's advantage didn't survive much past halftime, as the Presidents went on a 10-2 run to open the third quarter. The Presidents wound up winning the quarter 29-11 and going on to the fourth with a 62-49 advantage. The Jackets edged back to within 12 points in the fourth, but that was as close as they came to advancing to Saturday's championship game.
Blair ended her collegiate career by scoring a team-high 20 points on seven-of-14 shooting. The senior did most of her damage from long range, as she converted on six-of-12 tries from three-point range. Sophomore forward
Addy Knetzer chipped in 16 points and tied for the contest lead with 13 rebounds. It was her 12
th double-double of the year.
Following the conclusion of the game, Knetzer was honored as a second-team All-PAC pick. She was joined on the all-conference teams by senior teammate
