WASHINGTON, Pa. (March 5) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team squared off with Stevenson (Md.) in the semifinals of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South tournament on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets battled back from a big halftime deficit, but couldn't complete the comeback. Waynesburg's season ended at Washington & Jefferson's Henry Memorial Center with an 83-75 loss to the Mustangs.
Waynesburg (15-14) trailed 57-46 after three quarters of play, but started its comeback in the fourth-and-final period. However, a 10-2 run by the Yellow Jackets pulled the Orange and Black to within just three points of Stevenson (16-10) at 59-56. Senior guard
Lauren Blair bookended the surge with a pair of three-pointers.
With 6:13 left to play, Blair knocked down yet another trey to cut the deficit down to a single point (65-64). Unfortunately, Waynesburg couldn't finish the comeback and the Mustangs were able to convert on key late free throws to take the win. Stevenson will face the hosts from Washington & Jefferson in Sunday's title game.
Sophomore forward
Addy Knetzer concluded a fantastic second season with the Jackets by posting team highs in both points (23) and rebounds (eight). Blair added 18 points in the loss, all on six three-pointers, as well as a game-high eight assists. Senior forward
Heather Davis wrapped up her Jacket career with 13 points on five-of-11 shooting, while junior guard
Kassidy O'Keefe chipped in 10 markers.
The 2015-16 season marks Waynesburg's sixth-straight with a winning record.
