LATROBE, Pa. (April 30) – The Waynesburg University baseball team traveled to Saint Vincent College on Friday for a nine-inning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Bearcats pulled out a 3-2 victory in extra innings to start a two-day, three-game series between the two programs.
The Jackets (12-21, 10-9) struck early with a run in the top of the first inning. Junior designated hitter
Jonathon Kletzli connected on an RBI single that plated sophomore leftfielder
Tyler Godwin. Waynesburg's early advantage lasted until the fifth when Saint Vincent (17-18, 10-12) tied the game at 1-1.
The Bearcats took their first lead of the day two innings later with their second score of game. Trailing 2-1, Waynesburg got the equalizer from Godwin, who led off the frame with his second homerun of the season. With the score knotted up at 2-2, the Jackets put two runners on base with just one out on the board. Unfortunately, the visiting team was unable to push a go-ahead run across home plate and the contest went to extras. Saint Vincent went on to win the game in the bottom of the 10
th.

Derek Whalen started and pitched well over five innings. He gave up one earned run on six hits and a walk. Junior
Parker Beatty worked the next three frames and yielded an earned run on five hits and no walks. Junior
Scott Hefty suffered the loss in his second inning on the mound.

Tyler Reis collected two hits each to pace the Jacket offense.
The same two teams will meet up tomorrow for a seven-inning doubleheader in Waynesburg on Saturday, April 30. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
