Series Breakdown
All-Time Series: Carnegie Mellon leads 10-4-1
First Meeting: 1907 (Carnegie Mellon won 17-0)
Last Meeting: 2012 (Waynesburg won 28-24)

  • Saturday marks the first meeting between Waynesburg University and Carnegie Mellon University since 2012. That year,  the Yellow Jackets defeated the Tartans 28-24 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Atlantic Bowl. The teams have only met 14 times prior when Carnegie Mellon was known as Carnegie Tech.

  • Three players from Carnegie Mellon were honored as preseason All-Americans for 2016. Senior defensive end Brian Khoury and junior safety Drew Fitzmorris were named to the first team. Junior running back Sam Benger was selected to the second team. Benger led the nation with an NCAA Division III-best 2,092 yards, averaging 190.2 yards per game.

  • The Waynesburg defense looks to slow down the Tartans run game with two top-10 tacklers in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Senior defensive lineman Zach Machuga and junior linebacker Brent Blacharczyk are tied for ninth in the conference with 16 total tackles. Junior defensive lineman Brad Grinnen leads the PAC with four sacks.

  • This weekend marks the start of PAC play for football. Last year, the Yellow Jackets finished eighth with a conference record of 2-6. Carnegie Mellon tied for fourth with Case Western Reserve with a PAC record of 6-2.

  • Fans who can't make it to Gesling Stadium will have plenty of options when it comes to following the action. Radio fans can listen to live audio from both 99.5, WCYJ-FM, Waynesburg's student-run station. Carnegie Mellon will also be providing live video and live statistical updates through its website: athletics.cmu.edu, and the PAC's website, pacathletics.org.
