Jacket men drop one to Bethany

Waynesburg falls 87-71

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 21) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team hosted Bethany for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) meeting on Saturday at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Yellow Jackets never led against the Bison and dropped the contest by the final score of 87-71.

Waynesburg (5-12, 3-7) got its share of strong performances in the defeat. Junior wing Jon Knab poured in a team-high 19 points and led Waynesburg in rebounding with nine boards. He did most of his offensive damage at the free throw line, where he connected on 10-of-12 attempts.

Junior forward Marcus Wallace was the model of efficiency during an 18-point afternoon. Not only did he go six-for-six from the floor, but he also knocked down six-of-seven attempts at the charity stripe.

Senior Timmy Kaiser was Waynesburg's third-and-final player to reach double digits in scoring. He went for 10 points before fouling out after 27 minutes on the court. Freshman Frank Bozicevic chipped in seven points off the bench.

Bethany (12-5, 7-3) led 41-34 at halftime, but the Jackets pulled to within two points thanks to a 6-1 start to the second half. Wallace and Kaiser both notched old fashioned three-point plays to account for all of Waynesburg's points in the spurt.

The home team pulled to within a single point of tying the game on multiple occasions during the second half. However, an 11-to-three sprint to the finish line by the Bison put the finishing touches on their victory.

The Jackets are back in action with their second of three-straight home games on Wednesday. Waynesburg welcomes Grove City to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
