WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 14) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted Thiel for senior day on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets enjoyed a successful day at John F. Wiley Stadium, which included a 4-0 win over Thiel.
Several of Waynesburg's (6-6-1, 2-3) six senior honorees played major roles in its most recent victory. Senior defender
Sam Nichols tallied the eventual game-winning goal during the 13
th minute of action. The score was set up by sophomore
Teagan Jenner.
The Jackets were unable to extend their advantage over Thiel (3-10, 0-4) until the second half of Saturday's victory. Jenner logged her second helper of the afternoon when she set up freshman
Emily Hill for a crucial insurance goal in the 55
th minute of play.
After freshman
Amelia Beland found the back of the net to make the score 3-0 in the 66
th minute, senior
Courtney Zofcin gave herself a memorable senior day with her first collegiate goal. The goal in the 79
th minute was set up by fellow senior
Nikki Davis.
Sophomore
Courtney Syfert got the start in net, but played just the first 4:56 of the contest. Senior
Heather Fraser logged the final 85-plus minutes of action, which gave her the victory.
The Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Chatham for a PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
