GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 19) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team played its second game of the weekend at the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic, which was hosted by Messiah College. The Yellow Jackets faced off with SUNY Geneseo on Sunday and fell by the final score of 73-59.
The loss came despite a fantastic effort from senior MacKenna Drazich, who poured in a game-high 19 points on eight-of-13 shooting from the floor. Drazich knocked down 50 percent of her three-point tries (three-for-six) and pulled down five rebounds over 27 minutes on the floor.
Senior forward
Addy Knetzer added 12 points on six-of-12 shooting and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore
Erin Joyce had one of the most productive games of her young collegiate career by posting 13 points, 12 of which came from three-point range, over 27 minutes off the bench.
Junior point guard
Monica Starre only scored three points, but made big contributions elsewhere on the stat sheet. She dished out a game-high 10 assists and grabbed seven boards.
The Waynesburg (0-2) offense was clicking early in the contest and built a 13-7 lead over the first three minutes of the contest. All five Jacket starters scored during the quick start.
The Knights (2-1) answered in a big way by putting together an 18-0 run that lasted for the remainder of the first quarter. By the time period number two got going, Geneseo held a 25-13 advantage. That surge extended to 20-0 with the first basket of the second quarter, before Drazich canned a trey to make the score 27-16.
Waynesburg never led for the remainder of the contest.
The Jackets return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21, when they host Bridgewater at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
