LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 2) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Saint Vincent on Saturday for its first road Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game of the season. The host Bearcats got off to a fast start and never looked back as the Yellow Jackets fell 79-65.
Waynesburg (3-3, 1-1), which saw a three-game winning streak come to an end, was led by senior forward
Addy Knetzer, who poured in a game-high 25 points on nine-of-15 shooting from the floor. She also knocked down seven-of-nine free throw attempts. Knetzer added four blocks to 33 productive minutes on the floor.
Senior
Mackenna Drazich added 12 points on a tidy four-for-six effort from the floor, while junior point guard
Monica Starre chipped in eight points.
Saint Vincent (3-3, 2-1) opened the game on a 17-6 run that lasted roughly four minutes. The Jackets pulled to within eight (24-16) by the time the first quarter came to an end. The home team gained early control of the contest thanks to a 21-6 second quarter and by the time the two teams broke for their respective locker rooms, the Bearcats were ahead 45-22.
To Waynesburg's credit, it outscored SVC 43-34 in the second half, but it was too little, too late, in terms of a comeback try. Saint Vincent's most notable advantage came on the glass, where it out-rebounded the Jackets 47-28.
Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 6, with a home PAC game against Bethany. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
