LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 3) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown at Saint Vincent. The Yellow Jackets fell 69-52 to the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent (5-1, 2-1) opened the game with a 13-4 surge and never trailed over the entirety of the contest. By the time the first half came to an end, Wayneseburg (1-4, 1-1) found itself in a 43-20 hole. To the Yellow Jackets' credit, they won the second half 32-26 thanks in large part to a game-ending 19-7 run that spanned the final seven-plus minutes of the contest.
"To win in our league consistently is crucial. We have yet to develop that consistency on both ends of the floor," said Waynesburg head coach
Mark Christner. "We have to learn to play on our toes together instead of on our heels. Saint Vincent put us on our heels."
Senior
Jon Knab and freshman
Matt Popeck tied for the team lead with 10 points each in the loss. Knab just missed out on a double-double after gathering a game-high nine rebounds. Unfortunately, Knab fouled out after just 20 minutes on the floor.
Senior forward
Marcus Wallace added eight points, but also fouled out after just 16 minutes on the floor.
The Jackets out-rebounded Saint Vincent 43-41, but were hampered by shooting struggles from the floor and the free throw line.
Waynesburg returns home on Wednesday to host Bethany in a PAC showdown at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the contest will be featured on the PAC Sports Network.
