Jacket stay unbeaten at home

Waynesburg women roll past Thiel 83-61

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 9) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Thiel on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jackets put together 40 outstanding minutes on the court en route to an 83-61 victory over the Tomcats.
 
Thiel (3-4, 2-2) scored the opening basket of the game. Waynesburg (5-3, 3-1) responded by posting the next 12 points to take a 10-point lead that it never relinquished. Junior guard Julie Deklaven capped the run with the first of three three-pointers on the day.
 
The home team's offense stayed red hot throughout the remainder of the first quarter and after the first 10 minutes of play had concluded, Waynesburg led 23-8. Another trey by Deklaven stretched Waynesburg's advantage to a game-high 24 points with 2:55 left to play in the first half.
 
Thiel closed out the quarter on an 11-2 run that made the score 40-25 at halftime. The Jackets maintained double-digit advantages for the remainder of the contest as they improved to 5-0 at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse this season.
 
The victors were led by senior forward Addy Knetzer, who notched her second-straight double-double following a 21-point, 11-rebound performance. Fellow senior MacKenna Drazich added 17 points and eight rebounds to the winning effort, while junior Anna Bartman went four-for-six from the floor and three-for-five from three-point range for 11 points off the bench.
 
Deklaven went for a game-high eight assists along with nine points. Thiel recorded five assists as a team. Junior point guard Monica Starre contributed six points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
 
Waynesburg knocked down all nine of its free throw attempts and held a sizeable 50-27 advantage in rebounds. The Jackets also connected on 46 percent of its field goals (32-of-69), as well as 40 percent of its attempts from three-point range (10-of-25).
 
Waynesburg plays its next five games on the road, with the first of those contests coming on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Carnegie Mellon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
