BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Feb. 18) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team wrapped up its 2016-17 on Saturday with a road trip to Geneva. After building a 33-30 halftime lead, the Yellow Jackets fell behind the Golden Tornadoes and suffered a 76-68 loss.
The Jackets (6-19, 4-14) led by as many as five points (28-23) with 4:21 remaining in the first half. Waynesburg was able to close out the opening 20 minutes of play to take its three-point edge into the locker room.
After losing its lead in the early portion of the second half, a layup by junior wing
Jon Knab put the visiting team back ahead 38-37 with 17:37 remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, that was the last advantage that Waynesburg held on the day.
The Golden Tornadoes used a 7-2 run to take a 44-40 advantage just over three minutes later. A three-pointer by freshman
Sam Heeter and a free throw by junior
Marcus Wallace tied the game at 44-44, but an 8-0 surge by the GT's ultimately put the game out of reach.
Though it came in a losing effort, Knab put together his eighth 20-plus-point game of the season. He went for 20 points on nine-of-16 shooting from the field. He also tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
Wallace added 12 points to Waynesburg's day, while freshman point guard
Frank Bozicevic chipped in 11 points and a game-high four steals.
