PITTSBURGH, Pa. (March 5) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team rolled into Sunday's Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship game against Carnegie Mellon University. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets' run through the tournament came up one win shy of a title, as the host Tartans came away with an 80-69 win.
The game was a tightly contested affair over the first three quarters of action. Waynesburg (19-12) and CMU (21-7) were tied at 19-19 after the first quarter, and the Tartans led by just three points (40-37) at halftime.
The Jacket deficit grew to just four points (46-42) after three period of play. However, Carnegie Mellon was able to put the game away in the fourth, when it pulled away for the victory.
Though it came in a losing effort, the Waynesburg offensive effort featured five scorers that reached double digits in scoring for a third-straight game. Junior forward
Addy Knetzer posted a team-high 13 points and tied for the squad high in rebounds with six boards. Senior forward
Haley Delaney went for 11 points, six rebounds and four assists in her final collegiate game.
Speaking of seniors, guards
Katie Gehlmann and
Kassidy O'Keefe posted 10 points each in the ECAC title tilt. Gehlmann made school history midway through the second quarter with her second basket of the game, which put her at 1,000 points for her career with the Yellow Jackets. She ends her collegiate playing days with 1,005 points.

Mackenna Drazich chipped in 10 points of her own. Sophomore point guard
Monica Starre dished out a Jacket-high five assists.
After the conclusion of Sunday's game, the all-ECAC tournament team was released. Waynesburg and Carnegie Mellon combined for four of the five members. The Jackets were represented by Knetzer and Gehlmann.
