GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 24) – The Waynesburg University baseball team traveled to Thiel for a nine-inning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Monday. A slow start doomed the Yellow Jackets, who fell 14-2 to the host team.
Waynesburg (15-18, 9-9) gave up a crushing eight-spot in the bottom of the first inning and was never able to dig out of the hole. The Jackets scored both of their runs in the top of the second when freshman third baseman
Justin Buberl connected on a two-run single that scored junior leftfielder
Tyler Godwin and senior first baseman
Jonathon Kletzli.
Thiel (19-13, 11-7) added a run in the fourth, three in the sixth and a final two-spot in the eighth.
Seven different Jackets picked up one hit each in the loss, including Godwin, who recorded a double. Four different Waynesburg pitchers hit the mound in the loss. Senior
Jacob Meyer started and took the loss after lasting two-thirds of innings. The veteran allowed seven runs on six hits and a walk.
The Jackets will try to bounce back from the lopsided loss on Saturday when Thiel comes to town for a seven-inning doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
