GREENSBURG, Pa. (April 3) – The Waynesburg University baseball team hit the road on Monday for a nine-inning non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Pitt Greensburg. The Yellow Jackets fell in a wild 21-11 contest.
The Jackets (8-12) fell into a 14-1 hole after three innings of play. However, the visiting team was able to close the gap with three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to make the score 14-5. UPG (7-4) scored once in the seventh to re-establish a double-digit advantage (15-5), before Waynesburg posted a four-spot in the top of the eighth.
Unfortunately, UPG exploded for six runs in the bottom of the eighth to go up 21-9. The Jackets managed to push a pair of scores home in the top of the ninth, but it was too little, too late for the road squad, which has played four games in the last three days.
Though it came in a losing effort, senior first baseman
Jonathon Kletzli had a big day at the plate. He went three-for-four with a double, a homerun and a walk. Kletzli scored a game-high four runs and picked up one RBI.
Senior
Nate Mori added a three-for-six effort with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Freshman outfielder
Addis Crouch went two-for-four with a team-high three RBI and two runs scored.
Freshman
Brandon Floyd started and suffered the loss after working one inning on the mound.
Waynesburg is back on the road Wednesday, when it makes a road trip to Thomas More for a nine-inning PAC matchup. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 2 p.m.
