WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 26) – It was a night to celebrate on Friday, when the Waynesburg University wrestling team welcomed Thiel to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse for the two teams' annual Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rivalry match. Not only did the Yellow Jackets roll to a 40-6 win over the Tomcats, but they held a slew of celebrations before and during the contest.

Prior to the start of the evening, Waynesburg (12-7, 3-0) honored its four-man senior class, which is comprised of Tristan Buxton, D.J. Grindle, Derek Hull and Landon Lohr. Buxton and junior heavyweight Jake Evans were then recognized for logging their 100th collegiate victories earlier this season.

After collecting his accolades, Buxton showed how he piled up 100-plus wins over his four seasons at Waynesburg during an 11-2 major decision. It was the first of six Jacket victories that came with bonus points.

Freshman Josh Kuslock followed Buxton with a 17-0 technical fall (5:00) at 133 pounds. The home team's first decision came courtesy of freshman Matt Lascola by an 8-6 score at 141 pounds. Thiel picked up its lone victory of the night with a pin at 149 pounds.

Following sophomore Dan Verhovsek's 7-1 decision at 157 pounds, the match broke for intermission, during which head coach Ron Headlee was recognized by his staff for recording his 100th collegiate victory earlier this season.

The Jackets got right back to work at 165 pounds, where Hull rolled to a 23-7 technical fall (5:36). Freshman Caleb Baxter added six points to the Waynesburg lead with a pin in 2:37. Lohr made it a perfect three-for-three night for the senior competitors by sticking his opponent at 184 pounds in 4:55.

Sophomore Ken Burrs collected his team's third technical fall of the night by way of a 21-5 final score in 5:12 at 197 pounds. The win set the stage for the featured bout of the night at heavyweight, where Waynesburg's seventh-ranked Jake Evans, a returning All-American, squared off with Thiel (7-3, 1-1) sophomore Gage Gladysz, a returning national qualifier. Gladysz scored first, but Evans came back to pick up a 4-2 victory to cap a memorable night on the mats.

After winning their fifth-straight match, Waynesburg faces a stern road test at nationally-ranked Division II opponent West Liberty on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
