WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The
Waynesburg University women's tennis team hosted Thiel for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets ended their regular season with a 5-4 loss to the Tomcats.
Waynesburg (2-8, 0-7) got off to a solid start thanks to the efforts of freshman
Kyleigh Schmidt and junior
Noelle Hughes, who picked up an 8-4 win at first doubles. The Tomcats (1-11, 1-5) rebounded to wins flights two and three and take the early lead heading into singles competition.
Schmidt completed a 2-0 day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the number-one flight, but Thiel scored wins at the second and third positions. Waynesburg ended the day with three-set triumphs at the fourth and sixth spots. Junior
Sierra Stevens picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 win at the four spot, while sophomore
Abby Walbrown defeated her opponent 1-6, 7-6, 10-4.
The Jackets now prepare for the 2018 postseason team tournament. That event is scheduled to get going on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
