Waynesburg faces Geneva

The Jackets fall after taking the first set.

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 23) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Geneva  on Tuesday evening. After taking the opening set, Waynesburg fell 3-1 to the Golden Tornadoes.

The Yellow Jackets (4-22, 0-14) won seven of the first 10 points. The Golden Tornadoes (14-11, 8-7) battled back and tied the opening set on four separate occasions, but the home team took the final two points and capped the 26-24 win with a block by senior Lexy Waldman and freshman Hannah Cook.

In the second, it was Geneva that won seven of the first 10 points. Waynesburg found itself in the early deficit and tried to tie the set. Unfortunately, the Jackets could only bring the score within three points as the Golden Tornadoes took the set 25-19 and even the match at one.

In the third and fourth sets, it was all Geneva from the start. The Golden Tornadoes won the sets 25-11 and 25-8, respectively.

Senior Jordyn Wyllie and sophomore Hannah Colvin paced the offense for Waynesburg with 10 kills each. Junior Olivia Zuchelli totaled a match-high, 29 assists. Fellow junior, Alyssa Proper, led the defense for the Jackets with 16 digs.

Waynesburg returns to the court on Wednesday, October 24, when it travels to face PAC foe Grove City. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
