Jackets send seniors off in style

Jackets claim first conference win since 2015

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 26) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thiel on Friday evening for senior night. The Yellow Jackets took the first two sets and fended off the Tomcats for the 3-1 victory.
 
Waynesburg (5-23, 1-15) claimed 13 of the first 15 points of set one before Thiel (14-19, 6-10) battled back and brought the set within two points at 24-22. The Jackets halted the rally and closed things out with a kill by sophomore Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy).
 
In the second set, it was Thiel that grabbed an early 10-4 lead. Waynesburg eventually tied the set at 22 and after dropping the next point, the Yellow Jackets won the final three for a 25-23 victory and a 2-0 match advantage .
 
During the third set, both teams traded small runs until the Tomcats won five straight points to and opened a 23-19 lead. Waynesburg closed the gap to two points (24-22), but fell in the set 25-22.
 
Thile jumped out to an early 10-6 advantage in set four in its efforts to tie the match at 2-2. After falling behind by a 15-11 score, the Jackets rallied in front of a raucous Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse and tied the set at 15. Waynesburg grasped the lead and never relinquished it, as it won the set 25-22 to close out the match.
 
Senior Jordyn Wyllie (Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) tallied a match-high 12 kills. Fellow senior Kasey Kennedy (Cresent, Pa. / Moon) finished with six kills and hit .417. Junior Olivia Zuchelli (Jennerstown, Pa. / North Star) piled up a match-best 42 assists. Defensively, senior Cassidy Guiser (Newell, Pa. / Frazier) led both teams with 28 digs.
 
The victory was a memorable one, as Waynesburg scored its first conference win since 2015. That same year was also the last time the Jackets won at least five matches.
