WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 28) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Things didn't exactly go to plan for the Yellow Jackets, who fell 93-52 to the visiting squad from Grove City.
A pair of baskets by freshman
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) followed by a jumper by sophomore
Elena McDermott (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock) allowed the Jackets (2-4, 0-1) to build an early 6-4 lead. Unfortunately, a 7-0 run by the Wolverines (4-2, 1-0) gave them a five-point lead midway through the first quarter.
The Jackets never led for the remainder of the contest.
Though it came in a loss, Fuller put together arguably her best game as a Yellow Jacket and did it against one of the top frontcourts in the conference. The freshman tallied a team-high 19 points on eight-of-14 shooting and pulled down a squad-best six rebounds.
McDermott recorded 13 points on the night, while sophomore
Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) chipped in nine points.
Waynesburg will look to rebound from the rocky start on Saturday with another home PAC matchup. The Jackets host Chatham at 1:30 p.m.
