ERIE, Pa. (Dec. 18) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled north to Penn State Behrend on Tuesday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest with the Lions. The Yellow Jackets dropped a 78-44 final score to the host squad.
With the score tied 4-4, Behrend (8-1) erupted for a 20-0 run that gave them a sizeable lead they never relinquished for the remainder of the contest. By the time halftime came around, the Yellow Jackets (3-7) found themselves in a 46-15 hole.
Waynesburg pulled to within 21 points (58-37) of the opposition with 8:26 left in the game, but that was as close as it came to pulling off a miracle comeback. The Lion offense connected on 50 percent of its field goal tries including 11-of-30 three-point attempts. Waynesburg, meanwhile, was held to 35.3 percent from the floor (18-of-51) and connected on just three-of-15 treys.
Junior
Shane Johnson (Shadyside, Ohio / Shadyside) was a bright spot for the Jackets. He tallied a team-high 12 points over just 13 minutes off the bench. Junior wing
Brennan Smith (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) went for eight points and tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
Waynesburg gets one more shot at victory in 2018 when it hosts Muskingum on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
