Jackets drop two to Muhlenberg

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 9) – The Waynesburg University baseball team ended its run at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Friday with a doubleheader against Muhlenberg. The Yellow Jackets were swept by the final scores of 8-0 and 10-9.

After being shut out in the opener, Waynesburg (4-6) bounced back in game two. After falling behind 3-0 through the first three innings, the Jackets tied the game with a three-spot in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Brenden Kohan, junior Andrew Wuenstel and freshman Tyler Srbinovich all doubled in runs in the frame.

The Mules (5-7) fired back with five runs in the fourth to go up 8-3, but again, the Orange and Black had an answer. Srbinovich and junior Tyler Reis both logged run-scoring singles, while freshman Chris Lee had the big hit in the top of the fifth, coming through with a two-run single.

A run in the bottom of the fifth bumped Muhlenberg's lead up to 9-7. Waynesburg came back to tie the game at 9-9. In the sixth. Kohan drove in another run on an error and junior Jaret Berardinelli sprinted home on a wild pitch.

After battling their way back into the contest, a passed ball by the Jackets gave Muhlenberg the lead back in the bottom of the sixth. Srbinovich walked to put the game-tying run on base in bottom of the seventh, but he was stranded on first to end the contest.

The Waynesburg bullpen was more than solid on the day, as Srbinovich, freshman Jonny Kutchman and sophomore Colton Uzzell combined to allow just two runs, one earned, on three hits and six walks. The trio combined for four strikeouts.

After returning to Pennsylvania, the Jackets return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 13, with a doubleheader against La Roche. First pitch in the home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m.
