WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 17) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team hosted Westminster on Thursday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Yellow Jackets played right with the top team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in sets one and three, but dropped the match 3-0.
Waynesburg (2-18, 0-10) faced a 23-18 deficit in set one, but battled back to make the score 23-22. Unfortunately, the Titans (21-1, 10-0) stopped the rally and scored the final three points to take set one 25-23.
Set two belonged to Westminster from the start, as the visitors took a 2-0 match advantage after a 25-11 victory. Set three played out in a similar fashion to the opener, with Waynesburg erasing a 7-0 hole to make the score 24-22 in favor of the visitors. The Titans halted a 3-0 Jacket surge to win the match with a 25-22 triumph.
Sophomore
Alyson Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) put together another strong defensive effort with a team-high 24 digs. Senior
Alyssa Proper (Titusville, Pa. / Maplewood) logged a team-best 13 assists and put up a match-high four aces. Junior
Hannah Colvin (Hagerstown, Md. / Grace Academy) tallied a squad-best seven kills and added 13 digs to her night.
Waynesburg plays its final non-PAC match of the year on Saturday, Oct. 19, when it travels to Penn State Shenango. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
