Football wraps up 2019 season

Yellow Jackets fall at Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 16) – The Waynesburg University football team wrapped up the 2019 season at Saturday's PAC Backyard Brawl Game against Washington & Jefferson. It turned out to be a rough end to the campaign, as the Yellow Jackets fell 50-14 to the Presidents.

Waynesburg (1-9, 1-8) trailed 35-0 at halftime and 44-0 midway through the fourth quarter. Senior wide receiver Nick Moretti (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) broke up the shutout with his final collegiate touchdown grab, this one coming from 17 yards out from sophomore quarterback Kadin Roberts (Brunswick, Md. / Brunswick).

Washington & Jefferson (7-3, 6-3) answered with its final touchdown of the day to make the score 50-7. The Yellow Jackets ended their year on a high note by scoring on their last possession of 2019. Senior running back Chad Walker (Waldorf, Md. / Thomas Stone) did the honors by following a 34-yard run with a three-hard scoring plunge into the end zone.

Moretti posted the best game of his senior season on Saturday to lead the Waynesburg offense. He pulled in a game-high nine catches for 108 yards and a score. Roberts saw his first extended action of the season under center, during which he completed 13-of-27 passes for 124 yards, a score and an interception.

Freshman running back Justin Flack (Derry, Pa. / Derry) saw his three-game run of 100-yard rushing efforts come to an end. However, he was still able to cap a fine first season at Waynesburg by grinding out 88 yards on 20 carries. Walker added 41 yards on just five totes.

Waynesburg was led defensively by senior linebacker Tyler Smith (Poland). Smith logged a game-high seven tackles, including two for loss and one sack.
