Men's basketball hosts Otterbein

Yellow Jackets fall to Cardinals

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 26) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team played host to Otterbein for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets fell by the final score of 67-44.

Sophomore Isaiah Alonzo (Chandler, Ariz. / Tri-City Christian Academy) led the charge for the home team (0-5) with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. It's his second double-double of the year and fourth-straight double-digit scoring effort.

Senior guard Frank Bozicevic (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) chipped in 11 points.

Some struggles from the field and issues with turnovers played a major role in the Waynesburg (0-5) loss. The Jackets connected on just 17-of-52 field goals (32.7 percent) and turned the ball over 21 times. Otterbein (3-2) hit on 44.6 percent of its shots from the floor and committed 17 turnovers of its own.

Baskets from Alonzo, senior Brennan Smith (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) and senior Sam Heeter (New Bethlehem, Pa. / Redbank Valley) allowed Waynesburg to build a 7-3 advantage over the first four-plus minutes. The Yellow Jackets continued to lead throughout most of the first 10 minutes of action, as a trey from Alonzo put the Orange and Black ahead 15-13.

Unfortunately, a 9-0 run by the Cardinals gave them a 22-15 edge. Another 9-0 surge, this one ending the first half, gave Otterbein a 37-22 lead at the break. The visiting team led throughout the entirety of the second half before closing out the win.

The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 30, when they travel to Oberlin for the final game in their-early season non-PAC schedule. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
