CANTON, Ohio (Dec. 20) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled to Division II Malone Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Pioneers in the non-conference matchup 68-39.
Freshman guard
Ryan Felberg (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) had perhaps the best game of his young collegiate career, posting personal bests in points (11) and rebounds (five). Senior forward
Brennan Smith (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) was the only other Yellow Jacket to reach double digits in scoring with 10. Sophomore forward
Isaiah Alonzo (Chandler, Ariz. / Tri-City Christian Academy) added seven points and nine rebounds in the setback.
The Yellow Jackets (0-11) scored the first bucket of the game, a layup by Felberg, but never led again in the contest. Malone (8-5) went on a 25-4 run immediately after the layup and ended up carrying a 28-16 lead into the second half. The Pioneers outscored the Yellow Jackets 40-23 in the second half to bring the game to its final.
The Waynesburg men's basketball team will be off until Monday, Dec. 30, when it hosts Penn State Behrend at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
