LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 9) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hit the road on Saturday to face Saint Vincent, the number-one team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Difficulties in the first and fourth quarters undid some solid play during the middle two periods and caused the Yellow Jackets to fall 80-57.
The two PAC rivals went back and forth over the first 4:40 of play. It was at that point that Saint Vincent (19-4, 13-1) opened the game up with a 10-0 run that put the home team ahead 19-10 with 3:11 showing on the first-quarter clock. After Waynesburg (7-16, 5-9) pulled to within six (19-13), the Bearcats responded by scoring the final five points of the period to take a 24-13 advantage.
The Orange and Black pulled to within seven points in the second quarter (32-25), but, once again, Saint Vincent put together a strong finish to a period. By the time halftime rolled around, the Bearcats led 41-28.
Once again, the Jackets pulled to within seven points in the third, but were unable to get any closer to regaining the lead. Saint Vincent wrapped up the victory over the final 10 minutes of action.
