GREENSBURG, Pa. (Aug. 31) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team opened the 2019-20 schedule on Saturday with a road trip to Pitt Greensburg. The Yellow Jackets got their season off on the right foot by rolling to an 8-1 win over the Bobcats.
Waynesburg (1-0) opened by sweeping the contest's three doubles flights. Sophomore
Kyleigh Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) and freshman
Madison Trent (Shanksville, Pa. / Shanksville-Stony Creek) battled through an 8-6 match at first doubles. They were followed by seniors
Noelle Hughes (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) and
Lauren Wadsworth (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) scoring an 8-3 triumph at the number-two spot.
Senior
Sierra Stevens (Bellwood, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis) and freshman
Hayley Sweeney (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) combined to finish the sweep. They downed their opponents 8-1.
Trent, Hughes, Wadsworth, Stevens and Sweeney swept singles flights two-through-six in straight sets to close out the victory.
Waynesburg jumps into Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) competition on Thursday, Sept. 12, when it heads to Westminster. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
