CLEVELAND, Ohio (Jan. 25) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to the Buckeye State on Saturday to compete in the Dr. Si Ostrach Meet, which was hosted by Case Western Reserve. The Yellow Jackets swept a trio of matches to run their current dual match winning streak to six contests.

The Jackets opened their day by defeating Adrian (12-8) 34-15. After giving up a forfeit at 125 pounds, Waynesburg (11-4) received one of its own at 133. The Jackets took their first lead of the day when senior Matt Lascola (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Langley) pulled out a thrilling 5-3 decision win in sudden victory.

Adrian tied the match with a decision victory at 149. After that, the match belonged to Waynesburg, which won four of the last five weight classes, all with bonus points. Seniors Zach Mackall (Austintown, Ohio / Austintown-Fitch) and Dan Verhovsek (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) won by major decision at 165 and 184 pounds, respectively, while fellow senior Dillion Charlton (Stoystown, Pa. / North Star) logged a technical fall at 174 pounds.

Adrian scored its final victory at 197, before freshman Rocky McGeary (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) picked up a forfeit at heavyweight to close out the 19-point victory.

Match number two, which pitted Waynesburg against the host Spartans (5-7) was a much tighter affair. Again starting in a 6-0 hole, Constable got his team on the board with a 7-6 victory. Lascola improved to 2-0 on the day with an 18-3 technical fall that put his team up 8-6, but a win for Case at 149 pounds put the host squad back up 11-8.

Morris won an entertaining, high scoring 16-11 bout at 157 that tied the score at 11-11, before the Spartans grabbed their final lead of the match with a major decision at 165. Charlton took the lead right back for his team with a pin in just 1:09. Verhovsek made it back-to-back falls for Waynesburg and heading into 197 pounds, the Jackets led 23-15.

Case kept things interesting with a decision win at 197, but McGeary tallied a 9-2 triumph at 285 pounds that brought about the final score of 26-18.

Waynesburg closed out its trip to Ohio with a 49-0 shutout of Kent State-Tuscarawas.

After both teams forfeited at 125, Constable, Lascola, Mackall and freshman Luke Lavanway (Monroe, Mich. / Mason) notched pins for the victors. Freshman Jace Guy (Bloomington, Md. / Southern Garrett) picked up a victory by major decision at 157 pounds. Sophomore heavyweight Leo Fetterolf (McKeesport, Elizabeth Forward) made good use of a spot start with a 3-1 win in sudden victory.

The Jackets look to stay hot when they host Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Thiel on Friday, Jan. 31. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
