Jackets close regular season with senior day win

Waynesburg downs Bethany, earns home playoff game

WAYNESBURG, PA. (Feb. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team locked down sixth place and a home playoff game with its 70-58 senior day win over Bethany on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (7-18, 6-10) never trailed throughout the first quarter and only briefly trailed in the second period. Waynesburg rebounded and found itself tied 30-30 with the Bison (6-19, 5-11) at halftime.

The home team grabbed control of the contest in the third quarter thanks to a 14-4 run that lasted 6:36 and put Waynesburg ahead 44-34. Bethany pulled to within four points of the lead (47-43) late in the period, but an old fashioned three-point play by sophomore guard Kacey Kastroll (South Park, Pa. / South Park) made the score 50-43 after 30 minutes of action.

The Jackets put the game away in the fourth, building leads as large as 17 points (70-53) with 1:44 remaining in the contest. A late Bison charge brought about the final 12-point margin of victory.

Junior Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) posted a game-high 17 points and added 11 rebounds, including four offensive boards, for a double-double effort in the win. She also tied for game lead with four assists.

Sophomore center Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) tallied a double-double of her own on 12 points and 10 rebounds. Fuller shot six-of-nine from the floor.

Freshman point guard Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) tallied 10 points and a game-high five steals. Dansby's five swipes bested Bethany's four steals as a team.

Seniors Alli Delaney (Belmont, Ohio / Union Local) and Erin Joyce (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) were honored during the day's pre-game senior day ceremony. They posted nine and six points, respectively, on the afternoon.

With the win, Waynesburg set up a rematch with Bethany during Monday's first-round Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) playoff game. Tipoff from the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7 p.m.
