NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Feb. 26) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Westminster on Wednesday night for a quarterfinal matchup in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament. Despite a spirited comeback try in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets saw their season come to an end with a 76-60 loss to the Titans.
Waynesburg (8-19) trailed by just five points (16-11) after the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Jackets, the second period saw Westminster (20-6) grow its advantage to 39-20 by the time halftime came around.
To Waynesburg's credit, it fired back in a big way to open the second half. The Yellow Jacket offense exploded for 26 points and by the time the fourth quarter got underway, the deficit was slashed to just six points at 52-46.
A field goal to open the final 10 minutes of play put Westminster ahead 54-46. Sophomore
Brooke Fuller's (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) jumper a minute later brought the Titan advantage back down to two baskets. However, that was as close as the Jackets got to completing their rally, as the host squad slowly pulled away for the win.
Fuller closed a fantastic sophomore season with her fourth-straight double-double after going for 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The second-year standout finished out the year with 11 double-doubles.
Junior
Andrea Orlosky (Shelocta, Pa. / West Shamokin) and senior
Alli DeLaney (Belmont, Ohio / Union Local) tied for the team lead with 15 points each. Orlosky finished second on the team with eight rebounds on the night, while Delaney was her usual efficient self from long range, going three-for-five from beyond the arc.
Senior
Erin Joyce (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) dished out a game-high seven assists in her final collegiate appearance. During the 2020 calendar year, Joyce really showed her ability to get her teammates involved in the offense by averaging 5.3 helpers contest over nine games.
