Softball wraps up Myrtle Beach trip

Yellow Jackets face Barton, Centenary and Rio Grande

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 7) – The Wayneburg University softball team wrapped up its stay at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic on Sunday with three games. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets went 0-3 on the day, with setbacks against NAIA member Barton, Centenary and Rio Grande.

Waynesburg (1-7) dropped game one 10-5 to Barton (7-10) and fell 8-2 to Centenary (1-0). The Jackets ended their stay with an 11-3 setback to Rio Grande (Ohio).

The Orange and Black offense was led by junior Hannah Batovsky (New Salem, Pa. / Brownsville) who went five-for-eight over three starts. She doubled and scored three runs on the day. Freshman Haley Livengood (Bruceton Mills, W.Va. / Preston) added a four-for-eight effort with a run scored.

Junior Emma Kubalak (Spring Mills, Pa. / Penns Valley) started two of the games and allowed just two earned runs over 8.0 innings. She gave up 13 base hits and walked six, while striking out a pair of opposing hitters.

After heading north to return to Waynesburg, the Yellow Jackets return to the diamond on Saturday, March 14, when they travel to Point Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
