LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 20) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team traveled to Saint Vincent on Wednesday for a rare mid-week afternoon matchup. After falling behind early, the Yellow Jackets bounced back to score a 2-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
The host Bearcats (5-9, 2-5) used a turnover deep in Waynesburg's (6-7-1, 2-4-1) defensive end to tally a goal in the fifth minute. The Yellow Jackets bounced back in the 42
nd minute with the equalizer courtesy of sophomore
Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.). James scored in a similar manner to the SVC score, as she turned a Bearcat miscue into her first goal of the year.
The score remained tied at 1-1 when halftime rolled around and stayed that way until early in the 86
th minute. Freshman
Haley Johnson (Somerset, Pa. / Rockwood) posted the game winner with her team-leading seventh goal of the 2021 campaign. After logging the equalizer, James assisted on the Johnson's game-deciding goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) bounced back from giving up a goal on the first shot of the game to pick up the victory in net. Blair tallied six saves and stood tall while facing 14 total shots from Saint Vincent.
