WASHINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team made its first trip to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) playoffs since 2021 when it traveled to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. Looking for an upset, the fifth-seeded Yellow Jackets took the fourth-seeded Presidents into double-overtime. Unfortunately, the home team was able to find the back of the net in the 105
th minute to end the contest and advance in the tournament.
Junior goalkeeper
Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) was fantastic for the visiting squad and allowed Waynesburg (8-8-1) to stay in the contest despite being outshot by a 29-10 margin and 15-5 in shots on goal. Blair piled up 14 saves, including six over 15 minutes of post-regulation time.
The Jackets had an opportunity to slip past W&J (10-7-2) late in the 104
th minute, but senior
Lea Holtz (Johnstown, Pa. / Bishop McCort) was denied by the President keeper.
Saturday marked the second time this season that Waynesburg and W&J played to double-overtime. Their first encounter ended in a 0-0 draw back on Oct. 13.
Though their season came to an end, the Yellow Jackets' 2021 campaign featured their highest overall win total since going 8-9-3 in 2014.
