WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 20) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team hosted a quartet of opponents for Saturday's Waynesburg Duals. The Yellow Jackets opened the day with a win over Pitt Bradford before dropping matches with Alvernia and Division II Glenville State.
Waynesburg's (1-3) 49-6 win over Bradford (0-3) featured five forfeits providing the Yellow Jackets with 30 points. The home team was victorious in four of the five contested bouts, which included the season debuts of junior 141-pounder Harley Constable (Smithfield, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) and nationally ranked junior heavyweight Rocky McGearty (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny). Constable rolled to a technical fall victory, while McGeary scored a pin in 3:44.
Freshman Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) posted a technical fall victory at 157 pounds, while junior 197-pounder Luke LaVanway (Monroe, Mich. / Mason) added a 5-3 decision at 197 pounds.
After being shut out 51-0 by Alvernia (2-1), Waynesburg closed its day with a 50-3 loss to Glenville State (6-0). Constable closed out a 2-0 day by downing his opponent from Glenville 10-4.
Washington & Jefferson also competed in the event, but did not wrestle Waynesburg. The Jackets return to the mats on Friday Dec. 3, for the first day of the Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
