WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 17) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Ohio Wesleyan on Friday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jackets stayed right with the Battling Bishops through the first quarter, but scoring struggles hounded the home team the rest of the way, as OWU picked up a 69-39 win.
Waynesburg (1-8) matched Ohio Wesleyan (6-3) point-for-point for the first 10 minutes, as the two teams headed to the second quarter tied 12-12. The second period saw the Bishop defense clamp down on the Jackets and forced them into some turnover problems that limited the host squad to just four more points before halftime. When the two opponents broke for their respective locker rooms, Ohio Wesleyan led 25-16.
Unfortunately, the halftime break didn't seem to renew Waynesburg's offensive potency, as the Jackets were outscored 20-10. The Battling Bishops closed out the victory by outscoring the Orange and Black 24-13 in the final 10 minutes of play.
Senior center
Brooke Fuller (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) put together her fourth double-double of the season, all of which have come in the last seven games, by posting 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Her four blocks were not only a game high, but bested OWU's team total of three.
Junior point guard
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) dished out a game-high three assists and tied for the game high with three steals. She also scored six points over 33 minutes of work.
After wrapping up the 2021 portion of its schedule, Waynesburg returns to the court and to PAC play on Tuesday, Jan. 4, with a road trip to Chatham. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
